Great Illustrations and Precise Instructions

My gosh! This book is amazing, but is not for the faint of heart. If you are an occassional fixer uper who changes his/her own oil and maybe some spark plugs or brakes, this book is NOT for you. However, if you are delving into engine building and specs, this book is a great source book to keep on the shelf for referencing. It'll remind you of precise measurements and tools to use in particular circumstances while blueprinting an engine. The book also discusses what true blueprinting is vs. the generic "blueprinting" vocabulary that is loosely thrown out there by many mechanics.

It's a great teaching tool for those just starting engine blueprinting and an excellent resource for those professional blueprinters as well. Well worth the purchase. The book is all about precision, precision, precision of ALL engine parts! Great illustrations too!

Again, just as a reminder, this book is for those into building engines to precise measurements. This practice involves lots of financial resources and instruments. If you are not already into blueprinting or planning on it, then this book is not for you. The reading level of this informational text is very advanced, but is awesome if you understand the lingo in the art of blueprinting.

Another great book from Car Tech. Informative and entertaining, every part is analyzed for function and techniques used to optimize it for better performance. Even push rods need special attention, who'd a thunk it. Weather you are building a killer race engine or the ultimate street machine, this book is a must use referance. And if you are a gear head who wants to better understand what goes on behind the scenes, why do succesful engine builders get the big bucks and are held in such high esteem; this book is for you. Thank you Mike!

ENGINE BLUEPRINTERS: This Book is a Must-Have

I have always had a strong interest in Cars and Engines. Whereas I have rebuilt an engine or two, I have never Blueprinted one..... this book gives you the written tools to do so and I would feel very confident following the instructions and using the great illustrations to complete such a project. Mike Mavrigian has done a wonderful job and CarTech has once again given us a great book to add to our Auto Libraries. Anyone thinking about Engine Blueprinting should have this book.

Viscount's Wager

I have been enjoying historical romance novels for almost 15 years. I got started at the end of college, and immediately fell in love with stories set during the Regency period.

Viscount’s Wager, written by Ava March was my first experience with a m/m romance, but hey, it’s set during the Regency and has two heroes. What’s not to like?

Anthony and Gabriel first connect with each other at a house party as teenagers. Seven years later, they meet again. Both men are at completely different places in their lives- Anthony has inherited a viscounty, and Gabriel has been recently widowed. They reconnect in London, and Anthony, who prefers city life to country life, offers to show Gabriel around London. Anthony is also hoping to explore the possibility of a relationship with Gabriel, based on a brief encounter they shared at the house party all those years ago.

Gabriel knew that he wasn’t interested in women when he got married, and while he grieved when she passed away after a brief illness, he also felt unburdened. This makes him feel guilty. He also feels guilty about his fledgling relationship with Anthony, and tries to stay away, but he can’t because they have amazing chemistry together.

Each man has a big secret- Anthony’ secret was unexpected. The reader knows that Gabriel has a gambling problem, but Anthony does not. They both react empathetically to the other’s problem, showing both compassion and openness.

It’s important to remember that homosexuality was a crime at the time, so it is a great personal risk for them to pursue a relationship. The sex scenes were really well written, with each man initially expecting something different from their lovemaking, but it’s interesting to see how this changes over the course of the book.

I would absolutely recommend Viscount’s Wager. As I mentioned, this was my first experience with both Ava March and with the m/m Regency genre. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I was so happy with the amount of detail and consideration for the era that went into the story. I was also very pleased to find out that two of the couples featured in this book have their own books. I will definitely be adding them to my reading list!

Romantic Male/Male Regency

At age sixteen, Anthony got his heart's desire for a brief moment: Gabriel, the older boy he'd been in love with for ages kissed him at a house party at Gabriel's family estate. Then, a scant few hours later he had it broken. Gabriel had been caught with a young woman and no chaperone in sight and to save the lady's reputation, Gabriel offered for her hand.

Now, seven years later, Anthony has inherited the viscounty after his father's death, and Gabriel has become a recent widow.

Anthony is a dutiful son, escorting his mother and sister to their social engagements and it is by chance that he meets Gabriel again at a musical evening. Still as handsome as ever, and still apt to make Anthony's heart fly out of his chest, he offers to show Gabriel around London.

Gabriel reluctantly agrees, for he feels he would be deserving of Anthony snubbing him after their history, but it seems Anthony isn't one to hold a grudge and soon Gabriel is feeling as much in love with Anthony as he had been that awful day when he got engaged.

Gabriel didn't love his wife, he feels guilty that he isn't mourning her death more, and guilty over these feelings he has for Anthony, another man. Gabriel feels he doesn't deserve love in any form and he spends most of his evenings gambling away his scant fortune, just for the chance to feel something other than guilt.

Every few days he seeks out Anthony for a brief interlude of wild passion, but he hardly ever stays the night and Anthony is beginning to feel used rather than loved. He doesn't know how to make Gabriel see that he is 'the one' and that two men can find happiness even in a time when it was illegal, as long as they are discreet.

Ava March is rapidly becoming one of my favourite Regency authors. She loves the time she is writing about and it shows. Everything you expect to be in a Regency romance is here: from gentlemen's clubs like White's, to taking a ride around Hyde Park, musical evenings, balls and soirees, the marriage market of the Season, it's all here.

This is the third book in a series, but I hadn't read the others (yet) and this book works perfectly well as a standalone.

The pacing is good, the dialogue flows well and doesn't seem out of place in a Regency. The love scenes sizzle with sensuality, with a good blend of emotion and eroticism. The connection between them shines through and the love scenes flowed well within the story, they didn't seem tacked on just to have sex in there.

My heart broke for Anthony after his hopes were dashed so soon after their first kiss and it was Anthony who I felt most close to as I was reading. I'm glad we got to see inside Gabriel's head though, otherwise some of the things he did, he would have come across as some sort of cad. As it was, you know his guilt and his conflicted feelings and so you can empathise more with him.

It was a wonderful read to get lost in for a few hours.

'Viscount's Wager' is the third book in the ‘Gambling on Love’ series by Ava March. Anthony and Gabriel have been given a second chance at love. Anthony is thrilled and goes all out to convince Gabriel they can be together; Gabriel is reluctant; he can't let go of his fear, regret and guilt from the past. Anthony tries to convince him to put it behind him, but it's Gabriel who has to forgive himself in order to be able to love again.

On the surface, Anthony is a secure, carefree young man. He inherited the viscounty from his father at one-and-twenty, quite young for so much responsibility. From this time on, Anthony has tried his best to handle his responsibilities while being a good son and brother, escorting his mother and sister where ever they need to go. The bank takes care of a great deal of the financial transactions, but Anthony worries about debts and other business matters for which he has no talent. Mostly, he lives a charmed life of privilege, albeit boring at times. When he spies Gabriel, the man who broke his heart at sixteen, he's elated, but cautious. Anthony is not anxious to be hurt again yet is excited about the possibility of getting together with Gabriel.

Gabriel is a widower whose wife died six months ago; she is also the woman he chose over Anthony. Anthony, forgiving soul that he is, doesn't hold a grudge, but is still in love with Gabriel. He offers to show Gabriel around London, since he's not been there in a long time and Gabriel agrees. Anthony is secretly hoping his rooms will be one of the places Gabriel will want to visit and begins a tantalizing seduction to which Gabriel responds, letting Anthony know he's interested. This begins a heart-wrenching game of hot and cold which almost breaks Anthony. Sensitive Anthony is as understanding as anyone can be, putting up with Gabriel's moods which are motivated by his guilt over hurting Anthony in the past, never loving his wife, and his desire for other men. Their lovemaking is hot and heavy, like they are trying to make up for the past, but the disappointment of Gabriel leaving right afterward causes Anthony to doubt his sincerity. When Anthony finds out about Gabriel's gambling addiction, he's furious, because now he knows where all Gabriel's money has gone and why he is in such dire straits. They have a bitter argument and Gabriel leaves for his estate. He's lost everything. More than ever, Gabriel knows he doesn't deserve Anthony and is determined to dig himself out of the disaster he's created.

Ana's lyrical writing is perfect for this Regency romance. It captures the excitement and danger of men loving men in a time when it was against the law. Although engaging, the pace was slow at times. I adored Anthony. He was such a kind soul who always tried his best at everything. Gabriel was difficult to like. I thought he was a pitiful excuse for a man with no backbone or common sense and I disliked him intensely for the way he treated Anthony; although he did redeem himself in the end. If you like Regency historical romances, reading about London society and customs in 1882, passionate sex, angst, and a happy ending, then you may enjoy this story. Thank you, Ava, for bringing Anthony and Gabriel back together.

About the Author
George MacDonald Fraser served in World War II and went on to become a journalist, novelist, and screenwriter. He has won critical and popular acclaim for his successful Flashman series of historical novels. He died at the age of eighty-two on January 2, 2008.

A Soildier's Up Close Story of The Jungle War in Burma During WWII:

George MacDonald Fraser, who has written many successful fiction books based on well researched history quite often starring his very British Flashman character, writes a chronicle of his own personal experiences in the final stages of WWII fighting the Japanese as a 19 year old member of a rifle company that is composed of a handful of men run by a sergeant and a corporal. Fraser, who just recently passed away, writes of his first hand experiences in a very descriptive personal way, capturing the various English dialects of his fellow citizen soldiers expressing all their frustrations of life in harsh conditions in the jungle dealing with swamps, leaches, mosquitoes, questionable orders but generally good leadership although sometimes well questioned by the troops. Fraser gives you an excellent description of what it was like in the field, mixed with the real humor from the men who bonded close together, although having their differences with occasional culture clashes; they generally endure their punishment with a delightful sarcasm. And Fraser gives you the full flavor of the different troops in the field such as the courageous Gurkha soldiers, Indians and native tribesmen that fight with the British while also interacting with the tribes inhabiting the Burma jungles often caught between the two sides. Fraser does not write a political correct book and he is quite clear about that, which makes the book a realistic read, he echoes what the troops in the field really felt and he makes no bones how they felt about their enemy. An excellent picture of very young and veteran soldiers in the field that gives you the feel for the tremendous challenges and conditions they faced.

Sobering, relevant, and important

Fraser's is one of the finest war memoirs I've ever read, and for so many reasons. He has a gift for illustrating the life of the combat soldier in ways that are at once terrifying, hilarious, and sometimes just plain bizarre. His discovery in the field that he had a gift for brewing tea is unforgettable, as is his account of falling down a well in the middle of a battle, his comrades cracking jokes about it as the chaos and noise of battle rages all around them. Among the most remarkable things about Fraser's book are his comparisons between the official histories of what happened with what he actually experienced; the official history of one engagement, for example, records only that a tank was destroyed and so many men killed or wounded on each side, but Fraser describes what that burning tank SMELLED like and how it attracted the attention of Japanese soldiers throughout the night. These are the things we rarely get from ordinary histories of battles and wars. His book does not reduce the soldiers to a list of statistics. One learns to care about them or loathe them almost as much as Fraser did.

The final few chapters are particularly sobering. We owe so much to the men and women who fought and served in this war. Fraser's book has many important and enduring lessons for all of us, but particularly for those of us born in the postwar boom. Highly, highly recommended!

The Black Cat tracks its prey through Burma

As a young man, George MacDonald Fraser was a "ranker" (enlisted man) assigned to the 17th (Black Cat) Division of the British 14th Indian Army as it pursued the Japanese south through Burma after the latter's resounding defeat at the gates of India, at Imphal. Fraser's narrative history of his personal contribution to this campaign is QUARTERED SAFE OUT HERE.
Written decades after the fact, this book does not pretend to be a comprehensive history of the Burma Theater in the last months of World War II. Rather, it's the war from the perspective of Nine Section in which Fraser fought, first as a Private, then Lance Corporal. (A "section" is the smallest operating unit of an infantry platoon, i.e. 8-10 men.) Besides being a vivid retelling of the author's recollections to the extent that he remembers, it's also an intimate portrait of the organization, weapons, tactics and camaraderie of the British Army at section level at that time, place, and conflict. It's a story told with the humor, intelligence and introspection that comes with maturity and hindsight. And, though some of Fraser's bitterness towards his old foe occasionally shows, age does dull the sharp edges.
"I remember watching, a year or two ago, televised interviews with old Japanese soldiers who had fought in the war ... sitting in their gardens in their sports shirts, blinking cheerfully in the sunlight, reminiscing in throat-clearing croaks about battles long ago. It crossed my mind: were any of you on the Pyawbwe slope, and lived to tell the tale? Well, if they did, at this time of day I don't mind."
Fraser is a truly gifted writer. After VJ Day, he applied for, and was awarded, a commission as a subaltern (2nd Lieutenant) in a Scottish Highland division posted to the Middle East. In this capacity, his experiences served as the basis for his quite wonderful and comedic McAuslan series of fictional stories (collected and available from Amazon.co.uk in THE COMPLETE MCAUSLAN). I unreservedly recommend both of these two books to anyone who has ever served in any branch of the armed forces, no matter what country. I myself was in the U.S. Navy, and Fraser's works are in the "can't put down" category.

Awesome and informative!

What can I say? Perry Stone can write a great and informative book, he surprised me, as I don't watch very many Christians who have ministry's on TV. But Perry Stone ranks tops with me (along with Zola Levitt, Joel Rosenberg, Dr. Michael Brown, Jewish Voice with Jonathan Bernis & the show entitled: The Jewish Jesus) and had I not known, I would have thought this guy was a fellow believing Hebrew in Yeshua! He's that good! Also, for any new believer in Christ, you've got to purchase 'Breaking the Jewish Code', as this will help you to better understand your Hebrew roots to your Christian faith, how you can take part in the covenant God made with Abraham, as well as examples of how God has blessed the Hebrew people throughout history!! It's something that is unfortunately simply not taught within mainstream American Christian denominations today and is even looked down upon or shunned. This book is awesome in explaining the Passover meal, what it means and how it can be a blessing in your life!! It's a great read and both these books have been a blessing in my life.

I would also encourage you to see the DVD that Perry Stone has produced about daily communion. It will change your opinions on communion only once in a while. The Bible of All Scanning Electron Microscopy Books

If you are like me and had to use a Scanning Electron Microscope or SEM, you want to start with the basics that everyone goes by. This book is a safe bet that most everyone knows about. Plus, it is written with very little background in the world of electron microscopy. Too many authors to list but it's wonderful that alot of experts got together to present this material in clear, concise manner. Before you grab your solid-state physics book or check Wikipedia, just relax and page through it since this book pretty much makes it easy for you.

Chapters are arranged by the following: What is SEM?, How SEM works?, and Why are we interested with SEM? That's the easiest way to explain rather than list all the chapters. If you have a specific question, you don't even have to read through the previous chapters (if you have rough understanding). The size of this book is a BIG PLUS. It's compact compared to the monsterous Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) book by Barry Carter which is another great reference. For this price, you would be lucky to find another good reference book under $100 with such relevant information.

Wellington's achievements in the Peninsular War cannot be overestimated. At the outset in 1808 Napoleon and his Marshals appeared unstoppable. By the close Wellington and his Army had convincingly defeated the French and taken the war across the Pyrenees into France itself. He and his Generals had waged a hugely successful campaign both by conventional means and guerrilla warfare.

This book contains the pithy biographies of some forty senior officers who served Wellington, in the majority of cases, so ably during this six year war. Many had experience of battle prior to the Peninsular and went on to greater heights thereafter. There is a section summarizing the major engagements that this 'band of brothers' took part in.

The book is arranged in alphabetical order and each thoroughly researched entry places its subject's life in his historical and political context. The result is a highly entertaining, informative and authoritative book.

must have for Napoleonic study

A companion piece to the author's Nelson's Trafalgar Captains and Their Battles, Wellington's Peninsular War Generals & Their Battles covers the lives of forty-one of the best known divisional commanders, heads of supporting arms and services (i.e. artillery, cavalry and supply), and principal staff officers of Wellington's Army in Spain from 1808 to 1812.
The book is divided into two distinct sections, the first consisting of the biographies conveniently arranged alphabetically, and the second consisting of the battles these men fought in, arranged chronologically, beginning with the Low Countries in 1793 and ending with Waterloo in 1815. At the end of each battle entry is a list of generals in the book who participated in each. There is an Introduction wherein the author discusses the promotion system, the purchase of commissions and the importance of patronage in Georgian England.
As any reputation would pale when next to Wellington's (not to mention his own low opinion of practically everybody), a close look at these men and their careers reveals extensive active service both before and often after the war against Napoleon. Also revelatory are the facts that most of them came from or married into titled families; almost half of them were of Scottish descent; and two were Germans.
All in all, this book is informative, well written and an essential reference tool for those interested in the period.

I think the book it up to date and covers the real world's needs for good goverance of IT's policies and procedures. The text was written by some one who has spent years consulting and working in the field with proven results. It is a must for any CIO,IT manager or Systems Analyst.

Solid and Authoritative Reference

If you are in the IT GRC space, this is an excellent reference volume. I found the policies and other material presented to be thorough and well considered, and the explanations and use cases of WHY some of the policies or documentation is structured as is has been very helpful. I use this volume every day.

Use of this book in conjunction with the latest version of "IT Security Policies Made Easy" should pretty much complete your GRC policy and procedure reference collection.

The earlier edition was better and less expensive

Not really worth the high price. You can get many of these policies by "Googling" the policy name. The earlier edition was better and less expensive, but of course now out of date. I tried to get a "peak" of the table of contents before purchasing, but never got a response and now I know why.
