Potentially Good Book Gone Bad

The book actually received directly from Amazon supposedly was published in 2007 by Heritage Books of Westminster, Maryland. However, according to the last page of the book actually received, it was "Made in the USA Lexington, Kentucky 28 May 2016." That is, the book actually received apparently was not in fact produced by the original publisher. The book appears to have been intended to have been produced in color. However, parts of the text such as country names are pale gray - as if they were supposed to be in some color (red or blue likely) - instead of black. The same is true of the photographs that are not clear and are mottled gray instead of black and white, which would have been acceptable though not ideal. Most of the photographs should be either the color of brass or green lacquered steel but none except those on the covers are in color. The covers are reasonably good. Given the quality of the reproduction that appears to not be from the original publisher I would not have bought the book from Amazon.

I was very Disappointed in this book for the following reasons
Photos of Cartridge and headstamps were badly out of focus, looked to be bad copies of downloaded computer prints
The layout of headstamp drawings in a lot of cases looks silly, typed straight and did not follow the curve of the base of the cartridge
Some of the General information was helpful
I am a long-time Cartridge collector with about 100 Reference Books in my Ammo library, the Book Review by Garry Roedl was so wrong

This book tells you next to nothing. It is very poor for cartridge identification.
The caliber is listed as a catagory but not the individual cartridge name so as to lump all cartridges into catagories ex. 30-40 Krag but not the actual individual cartridge name, further listing several bullet diameters for these cartridges. Also only a handfull of cartridges have the shell dimensions drawn. I find this book difficult to see what value it has, im sorry to have to be the first to evaluate this book. Far better is "Cartridges of the world", also "Ammo Encyclopedia".

With the Minority on This One

I'm sorry to say that I'm in the minority on what I thought about "Breeding Ground" by Jaid Black. The story was boring, as another reviewer states, and I couldn't wait for the book to be over. The characters are completely unmemorable and I was disappointed to realize that I would never want to pick this book up again. I've only read one other Jaid Black book, The Possession, which I loved (correction: I also read her book The Empress's New Clothes, also very good). I resisted buying this book for a long time, but after seeing so many positive reviews on it I decided to give it a shot. I should have gone with my gut instincts. I think another reviewers thought on the similarities between Breeding Ground and Planet of the Apes/Time Machine is very close to the mark, you'll definitely get a sense of that primitive, we're not in current day earth anymore type feel. I just feel that the story could have taken to a much higher and better level if Black had just pushed it a little further. The intimate scenes were mediocre, especially by erotica standards. There's definitely something missing from this book and it turned out to be such a disappointing waste of time and money.

If you're really into paranormal/sci-fi/fantasy romance, and you like the romance more on the steamy side, try Lora Leigh, Cheyenne McCray or Lauren Dane. I'll put Breeding Ground in my giveaway box, but hope that Black comes out with some better tales in the future.

When Commander Alexandria Frazier left on an intergalactic mission for NASA, she knew that when she and her crew returned some 1500 years later, that many things will have changed. However, when she returns to a post-apocalyptic planet, she has to deal with more changes that she could ever have expected. Two races inhabit this brave new world, the human-like Takuri who nourish a matriarchal society, and the reptiloid Xandi who prey on them. The king of the Xandi wants Alex - to own her, to dominate her, to turn into his plaything. What is her fate on this godforsaken world?

Wow, what a positively HOT book! OK, perhaps there is better erotica out there, but I loved this book! It has an excellent combination of hot and steamy sex and love. Plus, I did like the science-fiction angle.

So, if you want a sci-fi / erotic romance book, then this is the one for you.

This is easily one of the best books I've ever read. The suspense will have you on the edge of your seat, the romance and sex are hot and intense. The book reminds me of a cross between Planet of the Apes and Time Machine. The twist at the end will throw you for a loop! Great story, complex characters, and did I mention the highly charged ending? I hope she writes a sequel soon!

A good classroom text

Alter Ego is the text series currently used by the Alliance Francaise in Philadelphia for its intermediate level French classes. This book is designed to prepare the student for a specific DELF level, in this case level A2. In my opinion it's best for classroom use, not self-study. The new Alter Ego + is definitely an improvement on the old Alter Ego, with exercises after each lesson and more engaging content. Furthermore the appendix contains a good grammar guide, a lexicon of words and phrases from each lesson, some conjugations, a good section on correct pronunciation, and transcriptions of the audio from the text, the exercise book, and the pronunciation section. The audio is of course all on the accompanying CD. One possible improvement would be an expansion of the conjugation section which is currently organized by the number of bases in the conjugation of each verb. More helpful would be a list of model conjugations with lists of verbs that follow each model. There's no answer key in this text.

Alter Ego is entirely in French, so it helps to have some English-language books about French to fall back on. I can recommend French Grammar in Context (Languages in Context) (French Edition) or French Grammar in Context (Languages in Context) (French Edition). These are also for intermediate to advanced students.

Concise but comprehensive overview of SUAS algorithmic design

Beard and McLean's textbook concisely covers the guidance, navigation and control algorithms used in small unmanned aircraft. The text is written so that a reader unfamiliar with some background material can "take it on faith" and move ahead with the book's progression through the material and the bibliography is certainly adequate with supporting material. A very enjoyable aspect of the book is the end of chapter questions form a single design project that spans the entire book so that if one works through all the chapters at the conclusion the reader has a full, rudimentary SUAS simulation system, and the construction of this simulation emphasizes many of the concepts introduced in the book and allows the reader to easily experiment with design changes. Due to the very consice nature of the book, there are many instances where I felt like the authors introduce material without even mentioning alternate approaches. SUAS-GNC is a rich field and while this book will certainly leave the reader with a comprehensive understanding of one approach, the reader may not have an appreciation for the myriad of other approaches or the tradeoffs involved.

The website makes a poor attempt at helping readers with the many errors

Bought this book with high expectations, unfortunately, it's disappointing on many levels. The level of the material presented is comprehensive enough and broken down into somewhat manageable pieces to follow along. The biggest downfall of the book is the many typos/errors and insufficient clarification on examples. The website makes a poor attempt at helping readers with the many errors. The website also includes a section for users to comment and request feedback but the authors refuse to provide any feedback or updates. There are many concepts that are mentioned in the book on a very superficial level and the authors do a very poor job at providing the correct amount of detail, some of the solutions to the equations seems to appear out of the blue as if by magic. It would be nice if the authors at least made an attempt to respond to reader's concerns, especially since we're the ones buying their books.

Great Textbook For Autonomous Robotic Systems Course

This was the textbook for my Autonomous Robotic Systems course. With the help of the professor we used the concepts in this book to make Matlab and Simulink simulations to rotate and translate simple 3D models of vehicles, create waypoint navigation algorithms, animate the dynamics of applied moments and forces, and create an autonomous control system for a quad-copter. For those who aren't in a college course that uses this book, the website for the book has Matlab and Simulink files so that you can work on similar projects. The book is incredibly helpful for understanding the theory, and the Appendices have great examples of Matlab code for vehicle plotting/animating, translation, rotation, and the creation of S-Functions to make your own Simulink blocks.

Background knowledge in differential equations, dynamic systems, Matlab, and Simulink is required if you want to learn this stuff effectively.

A Childhood in Exile

By now, the story of Oscar Wilde's glorious rise and tragic fall are well-known. But most readers are unfamiliar with the story of how Wilde's wife and two sons were affected by his fall from grace. "Son of Oscar Wilde" is a beautifully written and poignant account of how a young boy's life was afected by his father's notoriety. Like his father, Holland carefully avoids self-pity in describing his life's events and still manages to convey a sense of loss and disorientation which is most heartwrenching. Holland's recollections of his father are priceless, and the book is an essential volume for anyone interested in Wilde the personality. Amazon.com was able to find a copy of this book for me in no time at all, and at a very reasonable price.

A Heartfelt Story of Loss and Betrayal

Vyvan Holland was just a child when his beloved father Oscar Wilde "disappeared" from his life in 1895. SON OF OSCAR WILDE is a remarkable story told by Wilde's youngest son. Holland makes no effort to answer burning questions about the demise of his father--one of the greatest figures of moden English literature. He never defends or condemns his father's actions. He cherishes the memory of a loving father. The Wilde family crisis changed Holland's life forever. Holland never saw his father or had contact with him after 1895. He was in his late teens before he was told the actual truth about his father. He had been so carefully protected from the truth by his mother's family that he assumed his father had been a bigamist or criminal. It was a relief to learn the reason his father had been imprisoned. Holland wrote his autography more than 50 years after the death of his father. He tells his story as he lived it. In 1895, Wilde was sentenced to two years of hard labor in prison for his homosexuality. The court confiscated his home and his property leaving his family broken-hearted. Even Holland's precious toys were sold at auction for pennies. The scandal was so great that his wife and 2 sons left for exile in Europe. Their surnames were changed and they lived in fear of the identity of their father being discovered. His mother died not long afterward during exile leaving the sons in the care of a guardian. Alone and lost and ashamed, the brothers were sent off to separate boarding schools. The brothers rarely saw each other again. Their mother's family made every effort to erase the memory of Oscar Wilde from their lives. Wilde died in 1900 never being able to make contact with his sons. Holland's writing can be dry at times and he often jumps forward and back in time but overall he has an incredible story to tell. Most people know the basic story of Wilde's demise. A brilliant literary mind went silent and Wilde could never write again after release from prison. The truth about Wilde's suffering wife and sons is finally told in this book. Although the family was forced into exile, their mother did not abandon Wilde and kept in contact with him until her tragic death. She knew his suffering but did not consent to allowing contact with the son. Only years later, did Holland learn of Wilde's great writings. So great was the scandal, that Wilde's books were basically banned in England. Several lives were ruined in a scandal that would be nothing more than jiucy fodder for the tabloids today. SON OF OSCAR WILDE gives some rare insight into a story that had never been fully told.

Father and Son

For more than 20 years Oscar Wilde has been one of my favourite author, perhaps the favourite author. Because the life was taken away from him he could not wrote all the plays, poems and stories I want so much to read, so I have read his works over and over again. Each time I find something new/something to enjoy; partly it is his wonderful point of view, partly his good sense of humour. For a long time I have been aware of his downfall, but don't know what exactly happened until recently. I also knew that he was married and that he and his wife had two sons, and sometimes I revolved in my mind: What happened to them? Where did they go? So when I found the book Son of Oscar Wilde at Amazon.com I bought it immediately. This is a beautiful book by man who knew and loved his father, but suddenly his father was no longer taken place in his life. Why? It took him more than ten years to let himself to try to find the answer. In this book he tells the world how. Everybody who like Wilde's works, love an honesty, are interested in the Victorian time or want to try to understand the consequences of hate should do themselves the favour to read Son of Oscar Wilde. Vyvyan Holland wrote: ..."my father's character was his great humanity, his love of life and of his fellow-men, his sympathy with suffering. He was the kindest and gentles of men, an he hated to see anyone suffer." After reading Son of Oscar Wilde I do believe this is also the description of his son. Vyvyan Holland died in the year 1968 so I will not get the opportunity to thank him for his book, nor can I thank his father for all the good times he have gave me, but both, father and son, deserved my thanks.
